A Roller Blind is an internal blind with a tube at the top which fabric wraps around going up and down to block off a window. Traditionally a Roller Blind has been a chain operated blind whereas a Holland has been the same type of product but with a spring operation. Nowadays most companies call them Roller Blinds.

Our Blinds are made in Adelaide. We have owned and operate our manufacturing plant in Newton, South Australia since 1980 and the company employs over 40 Adelaide staff. We manufacture over 98% of the products we sell with only a couple of niche exceptions. Stan Bond is SA’s largest manufacturer of Blinds, Awnings & Security products.

Roller Blinds on Sliding Doors are becoming more common. It is possible to install them this way but there are a few things to consider. The blinds often have to fit on the face of the door frame as there may not be enough space in the reveal due to the large handle or sliding door framework. We offer a service of cutting the sliding mullion when there is not quite enough room. Most companies do not offer this service so discuss it with the consultant when onsite. Also consider where you will have the controls – often on standard sliding door set (1 door and 1 fixed panel) you will have two blinds split in the middle. When it is a centre opening sliding doors (1 door and 2 fixed panels) you may need to consider motorisation or easylink to avoid a chain hanging in the middle of the opening.

Day Night Blinds or Day & Night dual blinds are another name for Combo blinds. They are two roller blinds on one bracket with most often an open screen fabric on one Blind and a Blockout fabric on another. The screen blind allows daytime privacy, some heat/cold insulation and glare protection while the blockout blind provides nighttime privacy, light control and protection from the hot sun.

There are laws in place to protect children from accidental injury on blind & curtain chains. Any chain or cord hanging lower than 1600mm from the floor must be restrained so a child’s head cannot fit through any loop formed. We cannot install blinds in a manner that contravenes the law even if the owner of the residence requests an exception.

Choosing an appropriate colour for your home can be difficult. For external products consider the colour of your roof, guttering, garage door and fence and consider choosing a matching or contrasting colour. Avoid colours which don’t quite match as they can catch the eye and look very obvious. Not all colours behave the same during application or performance on site. In general, light colours are ideal for more applications than other colour groups. Dark colours also show marks and scuffs much more obviously. Light colours absorb little light because the white pigments help reflect the light. This reduces the heat up effect on parts. Dark colours absorb light and hence heat far more readily, which explains why dark cars are hotter than white cars in the sun. If heat is an important element in the design or use of your product, the effects of light and dark colours is important consideration. Bright colours behave differently again. Bright colours not only absorb light and remit this as brightness, but the pigments are more readily damaged by the ultra violet light reducing the life of the colour as we know that colour. Bright colours, which include, reds, oranges, yellows, bright greens and blues are recommended for applications where colour retention is not critical such as playgrounds and furniture.

Ziptrak and Zipscreen Blinds use zips or kedars attached to the side of the product to hold the fabric into the channels. These zips or kedars are attached via hot welding or in some cases sewing. This process can introduce some tension into the fabric which is unavoidable. Furthermore, as the fabric rolls onto the top roller the zip or kedar adds extra thicknesses to the circumference creating smiles, ripples or waves when the blind is partly raised. Most people find Zipscreen Blinds sit flatter in the main body of the blind due to the reducers used at each end. Ziptrak and Zipscreen blinds do not sit perfectly flat! Some blinds (and sizes) sit flatter than others and at times this is not easily explicable. We continue to work with system designers to get the flattest and most consistent product possible but please be aware it is a fabric product and not a sheet of glass or metal.

Dark Coloured powder coating often shows little scratch/scuff/imperfection marks when inspected very closely. Australian Standard AS 3715 2.5.1 notes in part that the coating on significant surfaces shall be of uniform appearance, colour and texture and free of excessive scratches which penetrate though to the base metal. For all viewing situation a minimum of 1 metre shall apply… Stan Bond and Omega Prestige work together closely to ensure the highest level of quality is achieved on all products.

Unlike paints which can be tinted to thousands of shades and finishes, powder coatings are formulated and produced in a factory. Powder coatings cannot be tinted successfuly since the solid particles of each colour do not blend together, causing a mottled, speckled look when two different colours are mixed together.

This is a very common question. We would expect in normal (non-marine/non-extreme) weather environments powder coating should last beyond 10 years with little degradation. Powder coatings are considered extremely resilient, be a coating of choice for use on gas or oil pipelines which are buried in the earth or underwater. Powder coatings are used on automotive and appliances given their excellent chip resistance, hardness and or chemical resistance.

In conjunction with a regular maintenance program your powder coating will have a long life expectancy and will stay in good condition for many years. Just as washing your car is important for removing dirt and grime, your powder coating needs to be given a regular wash to keep it looking good. The effects of ultra violet light atmospheric pollution, general dirt, grime and airborne salt deposits can all accumulate over time and should be removed at regular intervals. As a general rule cleaning must take place every six months. In areas where pollutants are more prevalent, such as beachfront locations and industrial areas, cleaning programs should be carried out on a more frequent basis i.e. every three months. Three steps to cleaning your Stan Bond powder coated products – Remove loose deposits with a wet sponge rather than risk micro scratching the surface by dusting. Using a soft brush and mild detergent in warm water clean the powder coating to remove any dust, salt or other deposits. Always rinse after cleaning to remove any remaining detergent.

We recommend to use 0.75mm thick clear or tinted PVC for Ziptrak® and Zipscreen blinds. 1mm thick PVC can be used too, however, there is no advantage using 1mm thick PVC in our opinion. Stan Bond uses only clear or tinted PVC sources from Japan as it is the most clear and stable.

It is so rare these days that a company offers such wonderful service and quality of product. From the very start to the very end, nothing short of pure excellence. Jenny was amazing with her suggestions and ideas, her patience very much appreciated and her ability to get the job done within limited timescales very much appreciated. This is my second experience with this company, internal shutters and curtains to go to complete my home and I will not even bother to get quotes elsewhere. Thank you Jenny, and all the team at Stan Bond - don't ever close your doors please!
