Zipscreen outdoor blinds in Adelaide

Zipscreen is a Rollease Acmeda outdoor blind where the fabric is zipped into aluminium side channels using z-LOCK retention, helping it stay taut and cutting side gaps. Head boxes come in 120, 160 and 190 sizes, and operation can be spring, crank or motorised. We specify the box and tube to suit your width and drop.

With Zipscreen Blinds, you have the choice of 1% openness mesh, 5% openness mesh or PVC. All mesh options allow you to see through the Zipscreen, however 1% openness mesh has a tighter weave, which will block out more view, sunlight, wind and rain. 5% openness mesh is a popular option. PVC is completely see-through, but does need frequent cleaning.

The manufacturer lists some Zipscreen configurations up to about 7 m wide and 5 m drop. Openings start from roughly half a metre. Mains-powered 240 V motors must be hard-wired by a licensed electrician. Battery motors do not need an electrician but need charging by USB-C or a solar panel, and outdoor battery life can be shorter than a mains motor. We will recommend the best option for your site.

Zipscreen blinds are wind-resistant, but they are not designed to stop strong winds and they are not a storm barrier. Raise them during strong winds or storms, because strong wind can damage the blind.

Zipscreen blinds can be a great addition to alfresco areas, but ventilation matters for safety. When using plumbed-in gas barbecues, Australian Standards (AS/NZS 5601.1) require sufficient airflow to prevent the build-up of harmful gases like carbon monoxide. Ask a licensed gas fitter to assess the space and appliance, and to confirm compliance for your alfresco area, before enclosing a space used for gas cooking. Follow the appliance instructions and keep the blinds raised while the barbecue operates. We also recommend a carbon monoxide detector.

Clean the frame and fabric with a soft cloth or brush, fresh water and mild detergent at least every three months, more often near the coast. Never use a pressure hose, solvents or oil-based sprays such as WD-40. A little silicone in dusty or seafront side channels helps, and do not roll the blind up wet.

New fabric is wrapped tightly for transport, which can leave ripples or wrinkles after installation. Leave the blind down for one to two days in clear weather so it settles, and always operate it from the centre of the bottom bar. If ripples remain, send us photos and we will assess it.

That is the Ultra-Lock. On manual blinds, pull the blind down until you hear one click and it is locked. Two clicks means it has unlocked, so lift and lower again to the first click. Motorised blinds lock and unlock themselves at the end of travel.
