There is a moment of panic when you look into your backyard after a big storm and see your Ziptrak or Zipscreen Blind hanging crooked and broken.
Here are 5 steps to limit the damage, get your blinds repaired and save money.
1. MAKE SURE THE BLINDS ARE SAFE
For now, you need a quick fix. If the blinds have been pulled out of the tracks they can move around in the wind and possibly damage the fabric, the posts or your outdoor area further. It is best to put the damaged blind and any other blinds you have in the fully up position. Sometimes the blind is difficult to wind up so you may need to get up to the top roller and wind it up by hand.
If the blind won’t stay up, the wind may have broken the spring inside. A trick to help hold the blind up is to use an old belt and wrap it around the top roller and bottom rail.
2. TAKE PHOTOS OF THE DAMAGE
Grab your smartphone and take a couple of quick pictures of the blinds, damage and general area. Depending on your insurance you may be able to claim any costs of repairs and a couple of quick pictures make any documentation and proof a lot easier.
3. CALL OR EMAIL US
Most damaged blinds can be repaired quite easily with some replacement parts, resewing or welding of the fabric and re-installation. 4. HOW TO STOP THIS HAPPENING AGAIN
Ziptrak Blinds and Zipscreen Blinds are designed primarily for sun and heat protection, not storm and high wind. In most cases, they cope well in the fully up or down position through most Adelaide weather conditions although we always recommend people secure the blinds in the up position if it is forecast to be gale or storm force winds.
Stan Bond installs most outdoor blinds using screws rather than rivets as they are much stronger. This, along with adding additional screws to both sides of the tracks can reduce the likelihood of it occurring again.
If your blinds are remote motorised, a wind sensor can be added to measure the wind speed and raise the blinds in high wind conditions.
