Room Darkening, Custom Made — Adelaide’s Blockout Blind Specialists
A blockout fabric is made so light does not pass through the cloth. The installed window is a different result: gaps at the edges, the sill and the headbox can still let light in. A fabric test does not prove those gaps are gone. Stan Bond makes and installs blockout blinds in Adelaide for bedrooms, nurseries and media rooms.
How Do Blockout Blinds Work?
Blockout cloth is opaque. How dark the room becomes also depends on the fit. A cassette and side channels on a roller blind reduce the gaps a plain roller leaves. They do not prove every edge is light-tight.

Blockout Blind Options
Blockout roller blinds
A simple option for managing bedroom light. A suitable cassette or side channels can reduce edge light where available. Ask about the fabric, control and how the blind will sit against your window.

Fabric folds that create a softer, more decorative appearance while still blocking light. The lining and fitting affect how much light remains at the edges.
Explore Roman blinds →Blockout curtains
A suitable opaque lining can help darken the room while retaining a soft curtain finish. Fabric, lining, fullness and the track position all affect coverage. Curtains can also be layered with a sheer.

Who Needs Blockout Blinds?
- Bedrooms — reduce early-morning light with fabric and coverage suited to the opening
- Nurseries and children’s rooms — manage daylight and street lighting, with safe controls and remaining light gaps assessed
- Home cinema and media rooms — reduce screen glare and improve room darkening
- Shift workers — manage daylight when resting during the day
- Home offices — help manage window glare during work and video calls
A sunscreen or light-filtering blind serves a different purpose: it softens light while keeping the room brighter. We can bring samples so you can compare the fabrics in person.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do blockout roller blinds completely eliminate light?
Standard roller blinds leave light gaps at the edges. A cassette and side channels reduce that edge light. In ordinary conditions the room can be near-totally dark. That is not a guarantee of a completely black room, and a fabric test alone does not remove the gaps.
What is the difference between blockout and light-filtering blinds?
Light-filtering blinds reduce glare and provide privacy but allow some light to diffuse through. Blockout blinds use a coated or tightly woven opaque fabric designed to prevent light passing through the material; this does not remove installed edge gaps. Both are available as roller blinds, roman blinds, or curtains.
Can blockout blinds be motorised?
Yes. Blockout roller blinds and roman blinds can be motorised using Somfy or Automate motors. Battery-powered motors are available where hardwiring is not practical. Smart home integration (Google Home, Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit) is available with compatible motor ranges.
Are blockout blinds more expensive than regular blinds?
Price depends on the fabric, opening size, controls, fitting and any cassette or side-channel options. Ask for a quote that identifies what is included; these options are not required or suitable for every installation.
Can I enquire about just one room?
Yes. Tell us which window you want to change, or send a photo to start the conversation.
