Enjoy the fresh air
Live Comfortably.
ENJOY THE FRESH AIR AND COMFORT OF THE OUTDOORS WITH OUR STRAIGHT DROP AWNINGS.
Custom-designed to suit your home, Stan Bond’s straight drop awnings are used on outdoor entertaining areas, including verandahs and pergolas that cop the west-facing afternoon sun. They are a practical awning for Australian outdoor living, and one of the styles in our outdoor blinds range.
The fabric can shade the opening on a verandah, patio or balcony. Comfort in winter or summer depends on the fabric, the side gaps and the weather.
Straight drop blinds can be raised using a spring assist, crank handle, cord and pulley or motorisation. These options let straight drop blinds be custom made to suit the opening, including openings up to 5.8m wide. Clips or straps are used with straight drop blinds to secure them at your desired height.
Shade mesh offers different openness levels, affecting view, privacy and light. Openness is not the same as measured light transmission. Ask for the selected fabric’s data and remember that side gaps can admit wind, rain and insects; follow the system’s weather limits.
Where those side gaps matter, compare channel-guided Ziptrak outdoor blinds and Zipscreen blinds.
What's new in straight drop awnings

Veue wire guide
The latest Veue Wire Guide system by Rollease Acmeda, an Australian blind system designer, offers a significant update in styling – elevating the Wire Guide into a modern looking version of the traditional straight drop blind. Stan Bond supplies and installs the Veue Wire Guide system. The cassette is the same contemporary square box used on the Zipscreen outdoor blind.

What's popular
A straight drop awning lowers over the opening and is held with clips or straps. There are no zips or channels. Mesh fabrics on this page are chosen so you can see out during the day while the blind is down.

What's trending
Designed to maximise the sense of space. Latest generation shade mesh fabrics are designed for you to see out during the day and obstruct others’ ability to see in. The photo is a straight drop awning on a cafe frontage. Cafe blinds are another option for a hospitality opening.

How Does It Work?
Straight drop blinds are made up of a piece of fabric attached to an aluminium tube at the top, with a bottom bar encased within a fabric pocket. On straight drop blinds, straps or clips are attached to either end of the bottom rail, which in turn clip onto saddles on the post or ground at multiple positions. To raise and lower the blind you use your hands, a crank handle, a pull down stick or remote control to lower the blind and clip it into place, or undo the clips and raise the blind up and out of the way. No zips or channels.
Wire guided straight drop verandah blinds are also made up of a piece of fabric attached to an aluminium tube at the top, with an exposed square shaped bottom bar. The fabric, attached to the bottom rail, runs up and down stainless steel wires. Wire guided straight drop blinds do not require any clips or straps to keep them in place.
Fabric Options
With a broad choice of outdoor fabrics, you can choose from our broad range of colours, patterns and textures – including traditional poly-cotton canvas from Somerton and Brella, the latest generation PVC coated woven polyester mesh, and acrylic fabrics to suit your shade and privacy needs.
Most commonly, Outlook Mode mesh fabrics in solid colours with 1-5% openness are chosen with Straight Drop Blinds to effectively protect from the elements without obstructing your view.
Easy Operation
Straight drop awnings are most commonly operated manually with a crank gearbox and handle. They can also be operated using spring assist, or motorised and controlled by remote or switch.
