  • Control every blind from anywhere — remote, phone app, or smart home voice command
  • Scheduled automation — wake up to natural light, go to bed with total privacy
  • Hard-to-reach windows made easy — skylights, high windows, over stairs
  • Somfy motors
  • Battery or hardwired options — no electrician needed for battery-powered motors
  • App and voice control depend on the selected motor, protocol, hub and supported platform

Types of motorised blinds we install in Adelaide

Available in blockout, light-filtering, and sheer fabrics. Suits living rooms, bedrooms and offices. We select a roller-blind motor to suit the tube, blind size, fabric weight and required controls.

Ask about motor options for your outdoor blind or awning. Sensor, motor and locking compatibility depends on the exact system. Sensors do not guarantee storm protection: follow the manufacturer’s operating limits and retract before severe weather when safe to do so.

Motorised curtain tracks let you open and close suitable curtains by remote control. Track length, fabric weight, power and control compatibility are checked during the measure.

Somfy options include:

  • Sonesse Ultra 30 — quiet-running roller blind motor, ideal for bedrooms
  • Glydea Ultra — smooth, quiet-running traverse rod motor for curtains and sheers
  • Ziptrak motor — selected for the outdoor blind system; sensor and lock compatibility must be confirmed
  • TaHoma Switch — a smart hub for compatible motors; supported voice platforms depend on the motor protocol and Australian hub configuration

Frequently asked questions — motorised blinds Adelaide

How much do motorised blinds cost in Adelaide?

The price depends on the product, the size of the opening, the fabric, and whether the motor is battery or hardwired. A Somfy TaHoma hub, if you want app or voice control, is quoted with the blinds. Request a free in-home measure and quote for a price for your home.

Battery vs hardwired motorised blinds - which is better?

Battery-powered motors (like the Somfy Sonesse Ultra 30 WF) are rechargeable lithium-ion, need no electrician or wiring, and are ideal for retrofitting existing blinds, rental properties and rooms without a nearby power point. You charge them by USB cable or a window solar panel. Charging intervals depend on the motor, battery, blind weight and daily use; we confirm the expected interval for the selected model. Hardwired 240 V motors are more appropriate for high-traffic windows (kitchen, living room), commercial applications, new builds, whole-home setups, or when doing a renovation and wiring is accessible, and they need an electrician for the power connection. Stan Bond installs both. We recommend the best option based on your specific windows and usage patterns, and we match the motor to your blind and your home. A side-by-side comparison is in our battery or hardwired guide.

Can I add a motor to my existing blinds?

Sometimes, and often for roller blinds. A retrofit may be possible if the tube profile, drive, brackets, blind weight and controls are compatible with the selected motor. For many roller blinds a battery motor replaces the chain winder with no bracket changes. Other blinds and curtains depend on the system and brand. For outdoor blinds like Ziptrak, motorisation typically requires purpose-built motors and tracks. Tell us the blind type, and send photos of the motor label, remote and blind so we can check compatibility, which matters because many people do not know their motor or remote brand. The best way to assess compatibility is with a free in-home measure - our team will check your existing installation and advise whether retrofit is viable or a new system is recommended.

What smart home systems do motorised blinds work with?

App, voice and scheduling functions depend on the motor model, radio protocol, hub and platform. Before ordering, we confirm the supported Australian configuration and any required bridge or accessories. Automate and Somfy hubs can offer app control, schedules, scenes and voice control, subject to that confirmation. A compatible remote may be used without a smart-home hub. We keep one control system per job and do not mix Automate and Somfy, because mixing them on the same job causes setup and service problems. Ask us which suits your blinds. See our home automation page.

Motorised blinds: can I use one remote for everything?

A compatible multi-channel remote can control several blinds, but the motor and remote systems must match. Separate motorised outdoor blinds each need their own motor even when they share a remote. If you are adding to existing blinds, send the remote model and order details before choosing the new motor. Matching the brand name alone does not confirm compatibility.

Which is better, Somfy or Automate?

Both are good systems, and we install both. They use different remotes and hubs, so we do not mix them in one home. We recommend a motor by blind size and weight, whether you have power nearby, and the control and smart-home setup you want. A consultant can walk you through the choice for your windows.

Are motorised blinds quiet?

The motors are designed to run quietly, but the whole blind can still click or make some noise as fabric and hardware move. A quiet motor describes the motor only, not the complete blind. Ask us to demonstrate in the showroom so you can judge the sound for yourself.

How often do I charge a battery motor?

It depends on the blind size and how often you use it. Supplier figures indicate several hundred up-and-down cycles per charge, which is roughly a year of daily use for an average blind, and a window solar panel can remove most manual charging. We will tell you the charging method for your blind and how to check the battery.

Do I need a wind sensor?

A wind sensor can retract a blind or awning when wind rises, which suits exposed positions. It is an extra layer, not a guarantee, because sensors have thresholds and gusts can arrive faster than a blind travels. Discuss sensors at quote stage, not after installation.

Will my motorised blind stop if something is in the way?

Some outdoor motors detect an obstruction on the way down and stop. Detection needs about one full tube revolution to learn, so a blind blocked right at the top will not detect it. Clear the area before lowering, and ask us which motor suits your blind.

Motorised outdoor blinds: do I need an electrician?

Motorised outdoor blinds need a power source and earthed cable, so you may need an electrician as well as an installer. Battery motors need charging instead of hard wiring. Our scope ends at the motor going up and down; your integrator or electrician programs scenes.

Spring, crank or motor?

Spring is quick and popular for smaller blinds, crank suits heavier or wider ones, and a motor suits large, high or hard-to-reach blinds and adds remotes, timers and sensors. Very large blinds use heavier tubes that cannot take a spring, so they are motorised or cranked.

Will motorised blinds work with my C-Bus or building automation system?

Hardwired motors designed for wired switching, such as the Acmeda M6 or Somfy LS40, suit C-Bus and BMS systems. Our scope ends at the motor going up and down; your integrator or electrician programs scenes, touchpads and the user interface. Each wired motor needs its own switch cable, and motors must not be wired in parallel.

Can I motorise any type of blind?

Many, but not all, and the motor depends on the product. Roller blinds have the widest choice of battery and 240 V motors. Roman blinds, honeycomb, some aluminium venetians and curtain tracks can also be motorised, using different systems, and some motors are roller-only. Tell us the blind type and we will confirm the right combination.

Are motorised or wand-operated blinds safer for children?

They remove the chain or cord, which is the main hazard. A wand motor uses a magnetic wand with no exposed chain or button within a child's reach, and motorised blinds have no chain at all. Where you do choose a chain or cord, the law requires a restraint if a chain hangs below 1.6 metres from the floor.

Is the electrician included in my motorised blind quote?

Check the electrical scope on your quote before installation. A hardwired motor needs a suitable power connection, but fitting the blind does not automatically include an electrician. Ask who will arrange the electrical work, what it costs and when it needs to happen. Battery motors avoid fixed wiring at the window but still need a suitable charging arrangement.

I changed the remote battery. Why is my blind still beeping or not moving?

The remote battery and a rechargeable blind motor are separate power sources. Changing one does not recharge the other. Tell us which blind is affected, any beeps or flashing lights, and the remote or motor model if known. We will check the correct charging or troubleshooting instructions. If the charging point is out of reach, contact our service team for help.
