Crimsafe screens can be considered as part of a project-specific fire-protection design. Fire attenuation and bushfire protection are different assessments: a result for one application does not automatically establish suitability for the other.
Fire attenuation near other buildings or boundaries
The protection required for an opening depends on factors including building class, wall construction, the relevant fire-source feature and separation distance. The applicable NCC edition and South Australian adoption requirements must be checked for the project. A simple distance rule cannot establish compliance for every opening.
Have an appropriately qualified fire engineer and the project’s building certifier assess the proposed solution. They will need the exact screen, glazing, frame and fixing details, and relevant current test evidence. Do not assume that any Crimsafe screen makes an otherwise non-compliant opening compliant.
Bushfire-prone areas
A bushfire assessment considers the site’s Bushfire Attack Level and the required construction system. Confirm that the proposed screen and complete window or door assembly are suitable for that assessed exposure. A general product description is not a BAL assessment or a project approval.
