Sheer curtains soften natural light. Daytime privacy depends on the fabric, the lighting and how they are fitted. Stan Bond was established in 1970. Curtain work began in 2016, when the Sawade team joined, and curtain manufacturing came in-house in 2021. Sheers are made to measure in our own curtain workroom at our Salisbury South factory.
What are sheer curtains?
Sheer curtains are made from lightweight, semi-transparent fabrics that allow light to filter gently into a room. Unlike blockout curtains, they do not eliminate sunlight — instead they reduce glare and create a soft, inviting atmosphere while maintaining outward views during the day.
Sheer curtain fabric options
Stan Bond sheer curtains are available in a range of fabrics:
- Voile — lightweight polyester with a crisp, clean drape. Popular in contemporary interiors.
- Linen sheers — a relaxed, natural texture that suits coastal and Hamptons-style homes.
- Jacquard sheers — textured weave patterns that add subtle depth without blocking light.
- Silk-look polyester — a lustrous finish that suits formal living and dining rooms.
Where do sheer curtains work best?
- Living rooms and dining rooms — creates an inviting, light-filled atmosphere
- Bedrooms (layered with blockout roller blinds for day/night flexibility)
- Home offices — reduces screen glare while maintaining connection to the outdoors
- Bathrooms need careful assessment of moisture, sightlines and privacy in daytime and after dark; sheers alone may not be suitable
Layering sheers with blinds
A common combination is sheer curtains on a curtain track, with a separate blockout roller blind mounted at the window behind them. The blind is not hung on the curtain track. During the day, the sheers filter daylight. At night, drop the blockout blind for complete privacy.
Frequently asked questions
Can sheer curtains be combined with blockout blinds?
Yes, layering sheer curtains on the front track with blockout roller blinds behind is a popular window treatment combination. The sheers filter daylight; their privacy depends on lighting and fabric openness. An opaque blind provides an additional layer for night-time privacy and room darkening, subject to coverage and edge gaps.
Do sheer curtains fade in Adelaide's sun?
Sun exposure can affect fabric over time. Ask us to check the selected fabric’s lightfastness and care information for your window orientation; do not assume every sheer has the same fading resistance.
Are sheer curtains available in custom sizes?
Yes, all Stan Bond sheer curtains are custom-measured and made to order. We accommodate floor-to-ceiling installations, bay windows, and extra-wide windows up to 6 metres wide using joining techniques that minimise seams.
How long does it take to supply and install sheer curtains?
Lead time varies with the selected fabric, order details and production schedule. Our in-home consultant provides an accurate timeline based on your chosen fabric and current production schedule.
