What mid-century modern design is

Mid-century modern design emerged in the mid-20th century, particularly during the 1950s and ’60s, as a response to the post-war boom and a newfound optimism about the future. It is characterised by clean lines, organic shapes, and a minimalist aesthetic, and it sought to bring simplicity, functionality, and a connection to nature into the home. Those ideas still show up in contemporary rooms.

Curtains and fabric texture

Curtains in a mid-century modern room are chosen for fabric texture. Curtain fabrics from the Zepel Jupiter collection have textures that echo that period. They add depth to the space and sit with the mid-century palette.

Linen-look polyester from Zepel Jupiter

Zepel Jupiter is a linen-look polyester fabric with no pattern repeat. Use its texture to complement mid-century furnishings. Geometric or botanical patterns would need a separately selected fabric. Other fabrics in the range bring retro and playful textures.

Sheer curtains or heavier drapes

Whether you opt for sheer curtains or heavier drapes, the fabric still has to suit the furnishings. You might want a minimalist look or a more eclectic mix. See traditional curtains when the room calls for a heavier drape.
